Iftar @ A&D Turkish Meat Market

My best memories of Iftar are at out store, our menu is never known, everything is last minute on top all that we do not know who to expect. We have shared our Iftar table with everyone who opened our door during Iftar time. You are all welcomed to join us any time.
Having Monday off due to Labor day was a great advantage it was the perfect way to start Ramadan. I worked that weekend at the store and for our first Iftar, I got to be the chef and with the help of my sous chef, my dearest cousins Gokhan & Alper I prepared our Iftar dinner.
If I was cooking at home on average it take me 1.5 to 2 hours to cook and prepare everything, well at the store this is not the case. We do not bake or cook anything to sell and because of this we do not have a full kitchen. We cook using an electrical stove and a DAVUL which is a traditional round floor overn, which I had brought from Turkey. I started cooking at 4pm and finished sometime around 7pm. My biggest set back was that the electrical power circuit breaker kept going off because we all were using to much electricity all at the same time.
Alas, everything turned out great and we all had a wonderful and satisfying first Iftar. Wishing and praying for an easy Ramadan and satisifying Iftar around the globe.

- Romain lettuce & tomato salad
- Victors labne with extra virgin olive oil – for dipping it is wonderful
- Merve’s homestyle yogurt
- Freshly from our backyard garden sauteed eggplants & tomatoes

- Green Lentil Soup
- Freshly picked from our Garden – Green Beans in extra virgin olive oil

- Rocco’s Pizza with thinly sliced Pastirma. This dish my mom kept asking for the whole day.
- As long as you provide the pizzeria with the pastirma and ask them to place it on top of the pizza 5 minutes before the pizza is removed from the oven. All pizzerias will be able to this.
- Dessert by Sabah one of our good customers - a plateful of Ramadan Kataif
Note: I will make another Kataif this weekend … will update with new pictures!

I just discovered your site and I love it.
I wondered if kataif were the same as beghrirs that we serve in Morocco copiously sprayed with honey and melted butter.

Thank you so much Nadia for stopping by! Yes I believe it is the same as beghrirs, from what I was able to find on the net. I have not heard of kadaif being called as beghrirs. We pour simple syrup over the top. But honey would work as well! Thank you again, Aysegul
