Sweet Sugar Cookies ~ Sekerpare

sekerpara 003 Sweet Sugar Cookies ~ Sekerpare

Sunday morning I woke up wanting something sweet.  I headed straight into the kitchen to make these quick and easy sweet sugar cookies.  Round and sweetened cookies, they are called Sekerpare in Turkish.  It is a delight that is made and served for special occasions mostly in Turkey and the Balkans.

In my case, I justed wanted something delightful.  The kind that I made is not from scratch, I just don’t have the time for that now, maybe later when I am married and in my own kitchen.  Sekepare comes prepackaged and ready to use, all you have to do is prepare the syrup and pour it on top of the cookies.  The cookies can be found at A&D Food Market. sekerpara 001.thumbnail Sweet Sugar Cookies ~ Sekerpare

Front Note: I did not use the preparation instructions on the label.  First time I tried it came out to be extremely sweety.  I altered the directions, if you prefer it sweet follow the instructions on the label.

Need:

  • 1 package of sekerpare
  • 1 cup of sugar
  • 1 cup of cold water
  • 1 teaspoon of lemon juice

Preparation:

In a deep cooking pot, add the cup of sugar and cup of water, stir and bring to a boil at a medium heat.  Let it boil for about 12 minutes add the teaspoon of lemon juice and let it continue to boil for another 4 minutes.

Arrange the cookies in a deep serving dish, slowly pour all of the syrup over the top of each cookie, going around the dish.  At first it will seem like the cookies are sitting in syrup (like the above picture), don’t be fooled this is not so.  Set the cookies a side for an hour + and all the syrup will be absorbed.  Leave it a side to cool.  Serve as you may wish.

Prepare a couple of hours or even a day in advance.
